That sounds like an intense battle! In Terraria, my favorite combat strategy is setting up traps before engaging enemies. I love using dart traps, spiky ball traps, and boulder traps to soften up foes before facing them head-on. Creating chokepoints with platforms and using ranged weapons like bows or guns also helps me stay safe while dealing damage.
